TELEMEDICINE ENABLED PRIMARY EYECARE

Providing eye care to remotely-based populations is challenging. Short-term campaigns, such as “eye camps”, have service uptake rates of less than 7%. Aravind developed telemedicine-enabled Vision Centers to better meet health needs of remote populations. These centers utilize cloud-based electronic medical records and remote staff technicians. As a result, within two years eye care uptake increased to over 70%. Aravind annually performs over 600,000 teleconsultations, and this model is being scaled across several Indian states and Bangladesh.
