Health and education are inextricably linked. Education is widely accepted to be one of the key social determinants of health, while good health is linked with greater educational attainment, employment and productivity.
However, health is rarely integrated into the educational system in an effective or substantive way. Efforts to include health are often ‘bolted on’ to existing curricula and this narrow approach misses an important opportunity to maximize the impact of schools on children and young people’s health.
The WISH Role of Schools in Child and Adolescent Health report will explore how health and health promotion activities can be implemented into education systems to deliver improved health outcomes as well as gains in educational outcomes for children, including innovative case studies from around the world.
